These tips can speed up your computer use dramatically. The basic way of thinking is that using the keyboard is much faster than using the mouse. In most programs you can access the menus by pressing Alt then the underscored letter in the menu. E.g. Alt F accesses the file menu in most programs. These tips are really worth learning. Perhaps the way to approach them is to learn one a day.
The mouse is generally slower than the keyboard sequence.
* To close any program in windows, just press ALT + F4.
* In most browsers, press F11 to get a bigger view of the web document. Also, hold down ALT and press left arrow to go BACK, and right arrow to go FORWARD a page.
* Put the things you use most often in the handiest places. So you can start them in a flash. Make hotkey shortcuts for programs you use often. To do this right click on the icon of the program and look at the "Properties" tab.
Use bookmarks in browsers, and place the icons/entries for them at the top of the menu list. You can still use ALT and the underscored or first letters to access these using the keyboard.
* In a browser, Shift + Tab: Jump back a field or link if you've gone too far pressing tab.
General Tips to Speed up your computer use:
* Ctrl-left arrow, or ctrl-right arrow :Moves the cursor one word at a time. MUCH faster for editing.
* Alt-Tab : Cycle between open applications. E.g. when you cut from one and paste into another.
* Tab: Move to the next field in a form or button
In a browser: I recommend Firefox, it's tabs and searching are excellent
* Hold down ALT and press left arrow to go BACK, and right arrow to go FORWARD a page.
* Tab: Move to the next link, or field
* Backspace: Back to previous page
